JOINING TECHNOLOGIES RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF CONNECTICUT'S TOP WORKPLACES
Joining Technologies was part of an exclusive list of 45 companies to receive the Hartford Courant/Fox CT “Top Workplaces” award for 2011. The company was also honored with a special award for Innovation.
WorkplaceDynamics LLC, a research firm in Exton, Pa., conducted surveys of employees at each of the 793 nominated organizations on behalf of The Courant and Fox CT (who together comprise CT 1 Media, along with courant.com, ctnow.com and other media outlets). In all, 12,685 employees at organizations with at least 50 people in Hartford, Middlesex, Tolland, Windham and New London counties responded.
The survey comprised 24 statements and employees were asked to grade each one on a scale from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree. Questions covered critical categories of direction, conditions, execution, managers, and pay and benefits. Each company was assigned a score based on a formula, and WorkplaceDynamics ran statistical tests to root out any questionable results.
Companies were divided into three size groupings based on the number of employees they have in the five counties: 50 to 99 for small; 100 to 349, medium; and 350 and up, large.
With 53 employees, Joining Technologies ranked 8th out of the 20 companies in the “small” (50-99 employees) group.
In addition, Joining Technologies received a special Innovation Award, scoring highest in an employee survey in the statement, “New ideas are encouraged at this company.”
About Joining Technologies:
Joining Technologies is a widely recognized innovator in the fields of laser and electron beam welding and laser additive manufacturing. From its single corporate entity, the company operates as three distinct business units, with its simple yet powerful value proposition of “Reliability delivered by Team” woven through all three.
The Services unit is the largest of the three, delivering a bundle of laser-based services which include welding, cladding, cutting, drilling and various surface treatments. The company also specializes in electron beam welding and applies the technology, most notably, to the aerospace industry. The largest segment within Services is supply chain management, where the company leverages its Quality Assurance and Business Execution systems to procure materials and outside services to supply the complete product to the customer. Notable markets include U.S. military and medical device.
The Systems unit designs and manufactures complete machines. These machines tend to be highly engineered, solving specific welding or assembly challenges, and vertically integrating the technology directly into the customer’s facility. One such system is the Infinite Web® – a breakthrough in non-contact splicing that has gained the attention of the U.S. steel industry. The machine is enabling steel coil converters to splice extremely thin metals, building larger coils, and avoiding downtime due to the rethreading operation.
The R&D unit, known as JTRC (for Joining Technologies Research Center) is a joint collaboration with the world renowned Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) (Aachen, Germany). JTRC develops laser additive processes for North American companies and supplies them the accessories they’ll need to perform these operations in-house.
The company’s leadership concentrates its efforts on the learning and growth of its workforce, leading to improved internal processes, heightened customer perspective and superior financial performance.
